How to Help a Hedgehog

Hedgehog numbers are falling very quickly and it is partly because hedgehogs just can’t get around like they used to. Gardens are fenced and walled in like they never have been before so hedgehogs can’t get from one place to another to find food or a mate. Have a look around your garden or your school yard. Are there several hedgehog sized holes at ground level that will let your neighbourhood hedgehogs roam freely around the neighbourhood?  If not, ask permission to dig a hole at the base of the walls or fences.

In winter or in very dry summers hedgehogs could do with a little extra food. Milk is very bad for hedgehogs, but dog and cat food is just up their street. A bowl of pet food put out at night will make a big difference to the life of a hedgehog!
