How to Make a Bird Feeder
Birds are beautiful and fascinating and they do a terrific job of tidying up pests and weed seeds in your garden. You can encourage them into your garden by giving them somewhere to perch and something extra to eat. Many birds eat both seeds and insects, especially in the spring when they are feeding their chicks.
Encourage birds onto your patch by giving them tasty treats.

You can make a bird feeder out of a plastic bottle and fill it with good quality bird seed.

You will need:
-
A plastic drinks bottle and lid
-
Bird seed
-
Garden wire
-
Thin sticks
-
Scissors
-
Drawing pin
-
Marker pen

Method
-
Choose a plastic drinks bottle and mark a dot on opposite sides of the bottle, about 10 cm up from the bottom
-
To make the perch, press a drawing pin into the dots to start your hole. Use the scissors to enlarge these holes and push the stick through so it pokes out evenly each side.
-
Mark two more dots 5cm above the perch. Press the drawing pin in to start the holes and enlarge them with the scissors. These are the seed holes so they must be big enough to allow the birds to peck at the seed.
-
Just below the cap, make 2 small holes and push the garden wire through. Twist it to make a loop so you can hang your feeder over a branch.
-
Push holes into the bottom of the bottle to let any water that collects inside the bottle drain away.
-
Fill your feeder with good quality bird seed and adjust the feeding holes so that the seed can be poked out but doesn’t fall out by itself.
-
Hang up your feeder and keep watch!
